Baltimore Ravens vs Kansas City Chiefs 18:00GMT

2:01 PM Farhan

Ravens vs. Chiefs may hinge on how much damage the Kansas City Chiefs are able to do through the air, and their biggest producer on the outside this season was wide receiver Dwayne Bowe.
Bowe hauled in 15 touchdown passes, to go along with 1,162 receiving yards, all career highs by far. He was fully in sync with his quarterback Matt Cassel, and had some absurd games when the Chiefs opened up their offense and decided to throw the ball.
The question for the Baltimore Ravens now is, how do they contain a deadly wide receiver that can make big plays?
Baltimore's Chris Carr and Josh Wilson will be the corner backs tasked with matching up against Bowe, and they'll have their hands full keeping him from getting open down the field.
The health of safety Ed Reed comes into question here, as he dealt with a rib injury throughout the week that caused him to miss some practice time. Will he be at his peak on Sunday and ready to provide help over the top for his two corners?
Baltimore's defense relies on good coverage, and they'll need it against a great player like Kansas City's Bowe. The game could hinge on how well Baltimore's secondary handles Kansas City's biggest receiving threat, so that's an area to watch for sure.

Green Bay Packers vs Philadelphia Eagles

Packers vs. Eagles: Will Michael Vick and Eagles Be Too Much For the Packers?
The Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles will play the last of four games of this Wild Card Weekend around the NFL, and theirs is quite possibly the most intriguing matchup of the bunch.
Indeed, it's Aaron Rodgers versus Michael Vick, the Green Bay's aggressive defense versus Philadelphia's unmatchable speed, and a rematch of the opening week tilt that unleashed Vick on the rest of the NFL.
As for who will win, well, that depends on a number of things.
Mike Vick is undoubtedly the linchpin for the entire game, as the Packers will be hard pressed to come away with a victory if he's on top of his game. The Vikings provided a useful blueprint for how to handle Vick in Week 16, as they were able to get to Vick using a great assortment of pass rushes.
The Packers have the personnel to do the same, and one suspects that they won't be shy about hitting Vick as much as they please.
If that doesn't work, the good news is that the Packers have the goods on offense to keep pace with the Eagles. This starts and ends with Rodgers, who threw for over 400 yards and accounted for five touchdowns in his first and only playoff start.
On balance, you get the feeling that this one is going to be a barn burner.

Lynch's tackle-breaking run seals 'Hawks shocker over Saints

1:20 PM Farhan

The slew of New Orleans defenders left in his wake understand why.
Lynch had eight different Saints get a hand on him during a 67-yard run that sealed a 41-36 upset victory over New Orleans and a chance for a rematch with either the Chicago Bears or Atlanta Falcons next week.
"That was the most unbelievable, unrealistic play I've ever seen in the history of football," Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry said. "It was just unreal. It seems just like a routine football play, then he takes it to another level."
Lynch was hit solidly by linebacker Scott Shanle at the line of scrimmage, but both Shanle and Will Smith slipped off him. Remi Ayodele and Darren Sharper were next, but slid off his backside. Jabari Greer bounced off his side before Lynch delivered a thunderous stiff arm to Tracy Porter, throwing him violently to the turf.
"It was 'beast mode' at its finest," receiver Mike Williams said.
Alex Brown and Roman Harper tried in desperation to get Lynch to the ground but instead could only watch in amazement as Lynch dived backward into the end zone.

"(The offensive line) did a great job of getting me to the secondary and I think instincts just took over from there," Lynch said. "I was pretty much just determined."
The touchdown gave Seattle a 41-30 lead with just over three minutes to play. With each broken tackle, Drew Brees and the Saints watched as their title defense came to a screeching halt. For Seattle, Lynch topped 100 yards, a first for a Seahawks running back this season, rushing for 133 yards and a touchdown reminiscent of Earl Campbell.
"At that point, we were within a score," Saints coach Sean Payton said. "And it took a lot of wind out of our sails and it was a great effort by him. Obviously there was some missed tackles -- it was disappointing, and yet a real good run by him."

Titans to release Young

4:58 PM Farhan

The Titans finished last in the AFC South with a 6-10 record and after clashing with head coach Jeff Fisher mid-season, Young will be playing elsewhere in 2011.
"I informed our general manager Mike Reinfeldt to move forward with plans to begin the process of identifying the next quarterback for our franchise," said Titans owner Bud Adams.
"He will inform Vince Young's agent that Vince will not be on our roster next season.
"I want to offer my personal thanks to Vince for all of his positive contributions to the club.
"These kinds of decisions are never easy and this is especially true for this particular player. I certainly wish that things would have worked out better, but I think it is best for the franchise that we move on at this point."
Coach Fisher remains under pressure to keep his post with Adams expected to make another announcement shortly.
"I also informed Jeff today that I was continuing the evaluation of the coaching staff and I am hoping to make a decision soon," he said.

Browns fire Mangini after promising start to season turns south

9:18 PM Farhan

NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reports that several league executives believe John Fox, coming off a nine-year stint with the Carolina Panthers, stands at the front of the line to replace Mangini. The Browns are also eyeing Jon Gruden as a potential replacement.
Mangini met with Browns president Mike Holmgren on Monday morning in what many anticipated would mark the end the coach's tenure in Cleveland.

"This decision was not easy for me, and it was one into which I put a great deal of thought," Holmgren said in a statement. "Although we have made improvements this season, my responsibility is to ensure that we establish a program that will allow this team to compete at a championship level. That will continue to be our goal in everything we do. I want to thank Eric for all of his contributions to the Cleveland Browns, and wish him and his family the best of luck in the future."
Mangini released a statement Monday expressing his gratitude to the organization.
"The experience coaching the Cleveland Browns the past two years has been tremendous," Mangini said. "I appreciate the opportunity that the Lerner family gave me. I have a deep respect for the players that I have coached the past two years and how they have made a profound difference in changing the culture -- a tougher, smarter, more competitive, selfless team that never gave up. Our goal was to build a team for long-term success. The core characteristics we were dedicated to, I believe, will help achieve that goal, and have provided a strong identity for this football team and have helped to create a positive foundation upon which the organization can continue to build.
"I feel strongly that the Cleveland Browns are headed in a very positive direction and greatly value the commitment and exceptional efforts of the coaches, players and everyone in the building that I've worked with in trying to help achieve our goals. My family and I have thoroughly enjoyed living in the Cleveland community and appreciate the support and passion of the fans. I know Mike and Tom (Heckert) are also dedicated to building a championship-caliber organization and wish them nothing but success."
La Canfora reports that if Fox were to replace Mangini, he would likely be joined by Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.
If they pursue Gruden, the former Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden, La Canfora reports that the job may not be a perfect fit in Gruden's mind -- despite his admiration for Browns owner Randy Lerner and Holmgren -- because Cleveland lacks the right offensive personnel.

» Blog Blitz: Browns
In his final postgame press conference as coach of the Browns (5-11), Eric Mangini told reporters Sunday, "Thanks for being patient with me. I tried to be better this year."
Sunday's 41-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers dropped Mangini's record with the Browns to 10-22 in two seasons.
The Browns improved in several statistical areas in 2010, but went 2-6 following surprising upsets over the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots. They were unable to sustain the momentum, dropping their last four games, including three losses to division opponents.
Players came to Mangini's defense before and after the Pittsburgh loss.
"This is my ninth year and I've never been a part of something like this," defensive end Kenyon Coleman told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "This team is a family."
Josh Cribbs also spoke out for Mangini: "I feel like one man can only do so much," he said. "This is the biggest team sport there is. You're asking one man in two years to turn a football team that hasn't been winning into one of the greatest football teams. I mean, it takes some time.

"I believe in what (Mangini) stands for. It's hard to make a change. I'm tired of rebuilding."
Cribbs said that Mangini told the team after the loss that he loved and appreciated them.
"We went out there and played hard for him throughout the year," said Cribbs. "He was appreciative of the opportunity we gave him."
Mangini -- who started in the NFL as a 23-year-old ball boy with the Browns during Bill Belichick's tenure with the team -- was introduced as coach in January 2009. His team started 1-11 before reeling off four wins -- including a shocker over Pittsburgh -- to close the 2009 season, a surge that impressed the newly hired Holmgren enough to give Mangini a second year. On Monday, Holmgren decided against a third.

Brees overcomes miscues, leads Saints into playoffs with win at Atlanta.

9:11 PM Farhan

That's right, Who Dat going back to the playoffs: The reigning Super Bowl champs.
Facing a team that had won eight in a row and was poised to lock up the division title and home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs, New Orleans rallied Monday night for a 17-14 victory over the Falcons to clinch a return to the postseason.
Atlanta (12-3) couldn't take advantage of the national stage to silence all those skeptics who wondered if the team with the NFC's best record is really its best team.
Despite throwing a pair of costly fourth-quarter interceptions, Brees came through when it counted. The reigning Super Bowl MVP led a 90-yard drive that ended with a 6-yard touchdown pass to rookie Jimmy Graham with 3:24 remaining. The Saints (11-4) sent a clear message to a team they might see again in January.
"It feels good," Brees said. "You just want to punch your ticket to the big show, and we've done that. Obviously, Carolina needs to beat Atlanta next week so we can get that one seed."
The Saints showed that Atlanta is not invincible, even playing at the Georgia Dome, where the Falcons had a 19-3 record in Mike Smith's three years as coach.
"We don't want to feel this way the rest of the season," said Matt Ryan, who lost at home for only the second time as the Falcons' starting quarterback. "We're going to work hard to make sure we don't."
The loss doesn't ruin Atlanta's two primary goals. The Falcons can still wrap up their first division crown since 2004 and home field through the NFC playoffs by knocking off two-win Carolina at home in the final week of the season.
But this one stung.
Brees completed six straight passes on a 13-play drive that won it, making up for an ill-advised attempt to flip a backhanded pass to escape heavy pressure. The throw was picked off by Chauncey Davis and returned 26 yards for a touchdown in the opening minute of the fourth quarter -- giving the Falcons their first lead all night.
It didn't last, even after Brees was picked off again on a brilliant play by defensive end John Abraham, who batted the ball high in the air then grabbed it himself.

"That's part of it," Brees said. "It's the ebb and flow of the game. Sometimes you have a clean pocket. Sometimes they're getting after you.
"In the end, we found a way to win."
After Abraham's interception, the Saints held Atlanta just past midfield, then got the ball back at their 10. The first two plays lost a yard, but Brees connected with Lance Moore on an 18-yard pass to keep the drive going.
Brees kept on completing passes, five more in a row to lead the Saints down the field. On third-and-3 at the 6, he flicked a quick pass to Graham slanting over the middle. The rookie got a step on William Moore, and Brees delivered the ball just out of the reach of Sean Weatherspoon for the touchdown.
Graham, who also played basketball at Miami, dunked it over the goalpost to celebrate.
The Saints shut down Turner, who ran for just 48 yards on 17 carries, and Ryan's two favorite receivers: Roddy White (three catches, 43 yards) and Tony Gonzalez (two receptions, 12 yards).
New Orleans especially enjoyed getting the best of White, who stirred up hard feelings last week with a series of inflammatory tweets, including one that referred to Hurricane Katrina.
"We didn't execute. We didn't do anything we needed to do," White said. "Our defense played well. They got those turnovers. They got us good field position, and we just didn't get the job done."
Although Brees made two huge mistakes, the Falcons were lamenting all the times he got away with a dip here, a step there.
"We can't keep getting close," Abraham said. "It's not enough, especially with a guy like (Brees). He's not going to just go down. If you get close like that, he's still looking at his receivers. He's third-and-short, he's third-and-long, we've got him right where we want him, and he's completing passes for first down."
All around, the Falcons didn't play their typically clean game.
An errant snap by Todd McClure out of the shotgun was recovered by New Orleans, setting up Thomas' 2-yard touchdown run that gave the Saints a 10-0 lead and breaking Atlanta's streak of seven straight games without a fumble.
Ryan connected with Roddy White on a 7-yard touchdown pass that made it 10-7 at halftime, but Atlanta squandered another chance when Michael Turner fumbled the ball away on second-and-goal at the New Orleans 1. It was Turner's first fumble of the season.
Brees completed 35 of 49 passes for 302 yards, easily winning the duel with Ryan (15 of 29 for 148 yards) on a night both teams struggled to run the ball effectively.
But Brees left the door open for the Falcons twice.
Trying to avoid a sack, he got away with a flip back to Thomas in the third quarter. The move backfired when Brees tried it again in the fourth.
With Jonathan Babineaux bearing down on him, Brees attempted to backhand a pass to a receiver standing at least 15 yards away. Bad move. The ball fluttered right into the arms of the 271-pound Davis, who rumbled the other way for his first career touchdown with 14:14 remaining.
After the ensuing kickoff, Brees drove the Saints right down the field, appearing to put them ahead with a 25-yard strike over the middle to Marques Colston. But the play had been whistled dead because of a false start by All sports pk, wiping out the score.

Then, on the very next play, Brees made another huge mistake. Or, it might be more appropriate to say, Abraham pulled off a tremendous play.
The 32-year-old defensive end rushed in on Brees untouched and swatted the ball up in the air when the quarterback tried to hurriedly throw it away. It came down right in Abraham's arms for his first career interception.
Despite the miscues, the Saints were the ones celebrating at the end. A few of them even trotted back on the field after it was over, whooping it up and posing for pictures on the Falcons logo at midfield.

Rise of Vick, guys named Shonn and other lessons of 2010

9:05 PM Farhan

I have watched a slew of my playoff teams get whittled down to one lonely squad still battling for a championship. Why still battling on this fine Tuesday? Like many of you, I am still dangling in limbo thanks to Mother Nature… and Mike "My publicist thinks I'm ready to own a dog again" Vick.
allsportspk.blogspot.com
You are either one of the lucky, albeit morally bankrupt few who added Vick to your team… or more likely you are on my side of that equation: Trembling at the prospect of yet another 60-point explosion that will single-handedly wipe out your chances of hoisting the glory… and cashing a check large enough to pay one month's worth of pre-school for your children.
As of today, I am clinging to a pathetic and decidedly unlucky 13-point lead with no starters left on my roster. I know, I know -- Vick poops 13 points before the first quarter is over, which is why I am hoping for more of that merciless force majeur weather to strike in Philly. As King Lear so aptly put it, "Blow winds, crack your cheeks, and knock him out of the game with a strained groin courtesy of slippery turf and all that dead dog karma." Hey, a guy can dream, can't he? (Cue all the erudite "Dogs isn't human!" comments and emails now.)
Relax and huff another gallon of paint, Vick Nation. Yes, he paid his price, yes he is now in line for another nine-figure contract, and yes, my fate is sealed. If you can sleep with him on your roster, the day is decidedly yours. As I twist in the wind, I can't help looking back over another frenetic ride on the wild stallion that is fantasy football. All the excitement of draft prep, the grind of weekly roster management, and crossing the finish line inevitably leads to a time of evaluation. Some of you may roll like the 'Niners and fire yourselves before the plane home from your last loss even hits the ground. Others may prefer a painstaking soup-to-nuts look at every facet of your organization.
Me? I am already mulling over some of the things the 2010 season schooled me on to a fair-thee-well.

Polamalu could sit out season

6:56 PM Farhan

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is doubtful for Sunday's game against the New York Jets because of a strained right Achilles' tendon and could sit out the rest of the regular season.

Get all the news from the football world on our NFL Buzz Blog.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Polamalu could miss the Steelers' final three regular-season games before the playoffs.
After facing the Jets (9-4) on Sunday, Pittsburgh finishes its regular season against Carolina (1-12) and Cleveland (5-8).
The Steelers (10-3) play the Panthers in Week 16 on Thursday night, and the short week might not allow for a full recovery for Polamalu. In Week 17, the Steelers travel to Cleveland. Depending on the outcomes of the previous games, this game could prove to be meaningless.
